LEARNING THE TURATS BOOK USING THE CLASSICAL ARAB PEGON METHOD: BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE IN THE CONTEMPORARY ERA

This study examines the challenges of learning Nahwu through classical Arabic Pegon techniques in modern Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in the Banten region. The research employed fieldwork with a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings reveal two main categories of obstacles: linguistic, which include difficulties in phonological, morphological, lexical, and syntactic restructuring; and non-linguistic, such as low proficiency in the target language, limited ability to write in Pegon script, and difficulty in comprehending the overall content of the texts. These findings highlight the need for adaptive pedagogical strategies to ensure that Arabic Pegon learning remains relevant within the context of pesantren educational modernization.
