Abstract

21st-century technological disruption has presented new challenges to the sustainability of Bahasa Indonesia's function as a national unifier and a medium for humanist education. This paper aims to examine the strategic role of Bahasa Indonesia as an instrument of humanist education in the digital era, with a focus on how language can serve as a medium for character formation, identity strengthening, and the preservation of human values amidst the rapid currents of technology. The approach employed is a conceptual-critical review drawing on theories of educational linguistics, humanist philosophy, and digital literacy studies. The findings indicate that Bahasa Indonesia holds significant potential as an instrument of humanist education when language learning is positioned not merely as communicative competence but as a cultural practice that builds critical awareness, empathy, and selfhood. The conclusion affirms that the revitalisation of Bahasa Indonesia in the 21st-century curriculum demands the integration of critical digital literacy, dialogic pedagogy, and respect for the richness of local languages as part of a dignified linguistic ecosystem.
